Lake Elsinore Rules for Vessels and
Personal Watercraft
- All California Boating Laws are enforced,
as well as Lake Elsinore Municipal Code violations
- The direction of travel on the lake
is Counter-Clockwise
- Speed limits: 5 MPH No Wake Zone;
35 MPH between No Wake and High Speed Zone; and High Speed Zone in
the middle of the lake, (there is no speed limit in High Speed Zone)
- Water skiing tow ropes over 75 feet
are illegal
- Observer must be over 12 years of
age
- No towable inflatables are permitted
on Lake Elsinore
- Children under the age of 12 must
wear a life jacket when aboard an underway vessel 26 ft. or less
- Every person on board a personal watercraft
(PWC) and any person on water skies, an aquaplane, or similar device
must wear a Coast Guard-approved Type I, II, III, or V life jacket.
Emergency equipment required on a
vessel:
- USCG Approved Fire Extinguisher
- USCG Approved Life Jackets for each
person on board
- Sounding devices
- Optional equipment: VHF Marine handheld
radio or cellular phone, first aid kit, and blankets
Slow Down on Blue Flashing Light
California Boating Law requires that you immediately slow down when
passing by a law enforcement patrol vessel that is displaying a blue
flashing light. You may only maintain that speed that is sufficient
to maintain steerage only of your vessel, and maintain reduced speed
until beyond the area of the law enforcement vessel.
